Tottenham Hotspur Under-21 manager Ugo Ehiogu has urged his charges to finish the season on a strong note after they lost to Sunderland last night.

Spurs suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Sunderland after a goal from Duncan Watmore in the first half proved sufficient for the Black Cats as they took home all three points. The hosts came close on several occasions with Josh Onomah forcing a save from Jordan Pickford, whereas Shayon Harrison shot wide after being one-on-one with the Sunderland goalkeeper, but the equalising goal evaded Spurs.

Ehiogu’s men are currently lying ninth in the table, having collected 25 points from their 19 games and face Manchester City, Fulham and Everton in their last three games of the campaign.

Spurs are winless in their last six matches, losing four and drawing the other two in the process. And the 42-year-old has urged his charges to finish the season strongly to carry the momentum into next term.

“We have to be careful now that the season doesn't just fizzle out over the last three games and that then reflects on the whole of the season, because that's what can happen”, the manager told his club’s site.

“These are young men and they have to realise when things are going badly that you have to go back to basics and work even harder.

“Then, if the chances don't come, I'll take that. In the meantime, there is more work to do.

“We'll have to dust ourselves down before we play [Manchester] City on Monday.”
