The Football League has agreed to allow Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino to attend the club's game against Rotherham United at Elland Road this weekend.

Cellino is currently serving a Football League ban for breaching its owners' and directors' rules and his sanction is not due to end until the day after the Rotherham game.

The Italian contacted the Football League to ask for special dispensation to attend the match, which is Leeds' final game of the season.

And Cellino has had his wish granted and will be able to be at Elland Road.

A Football League spokesman was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It's on the basis that he's attending as a spectator only."

Cellino has been banned from being the relevant person running Leeds as a result of his sanction, but the Football League believe his attendance would not change that fact.

"He's not fulfilling any role that would lead to him being defined as relevant person under League regulations."

The former Cagliari owner himself however is still undecided on whether to attend the match, where it is expected a large number of Leeds fans will protest against his ownership of the club and call for him to sell up and leave Elland Road.

Cellino was quoted as saying: "I need a clear head. I need to start again with everything next week. I’m not decided."

When the Italian was informed of the planned protest, he initially dismissed it and insisted he was used to dealing with fan opposition.

He may now have had a change of heart.
