Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted after his side prevailed over Bayern Munich to reach the final of the German Cup last night.

Klopp’s final game at the club will be Dortmund’s German Cup final on 30th May where they will take on the winners of today’s second semi-final between Arminia Bielefeld and Wolfsburg.

The day started badly for Dortmund after their former striker Robert Lewandowski gave the lead to Bayern Munich in the first half and Klopp admits that his side’s performance before the break was below-par.

However, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang equalised for Dortmund after the break and the BVB boss felt Bayern Munich took their foot off the gas to allow his team to find a way back into the match in the second half.

"It was one hell of a game. Both teams gave absolutely everything and tried absolutely everything”, Klopp told the club’s official website.

“We didn't play particularly well, and yet the score was still only 1-0 [in the first half].

“Perhaps in the second half the Bayern players felt the game was done and dusted. It's not as if we'd been overly dangerous. But football can be like that.”

Dortmund prevailed in the penalty shootout with successful spot-kicks from Sebastian Kehl and Ilkay Gundogan but Bayern Munich missed all their attempted penalties with Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm slipping as they took their kicks.

Klopp admits that luck was on their side but was elated to reach the final of the German Cup.

“I don't know why they all slipped over as they ran up to take their penalties. It was just meant to be today. And it's absolutely great that we've reached the final."
