Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are facing transfer bans at the hands of FIFA for breaking rules regarding the signing of underage players, according to Cadena COPE.

Barcelona are currently serving their ban for a similar offence and will only be allowed to sign players in the winter window of 2016.

FIFA have been going though Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid’s record of signing underage players and have reportedly found that discrepancies, which they believe warrant a ban.

Football’s governing body feels both clubs may have been guilty of breaching the rules when it comes to signing underage players and they could be banned for the next two transfer windows.

If they are banned, both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are expected to file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports and it remains to be seen whether they can buy time to do business in the summer window.

Both clubs have been extensively linked with a number of top players and it remains to be seen how they eventually react if FIFA decide to impose the sanctions on them.

However, the Spanish FA has claimed it is unaware of any FIFA action pending for Real Madrid.
