Manchester United linked midfielder Kevin Strootman is expecting to recover from his knee injury soon and take the field for Roma.

The Dutch midfielder has been having a torrid time with injuries since last year. He suffered a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament in March last year, which forced him to go under the knife and in turn he missed out on playing in the World Cup last summer.

After a lengthy period of recuperation, Strootman was eased back into action in November last year but shortly after cementing his place in the starting eleven he suffered another knee injury in January and another operation ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Strootman is currently undergoing another lengthy rehabilitation process but is expected to join the rest of his Roma team-mates for pre-season conditioning in the summer.

The Dutchman confirmed that his recovery is on schedule and he is working hard and putting in the hard yards to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.

“I am training hard to return to full fitness levels as soon as possible”, Strootman was quoted as saying by Tutto Mercato.

“I miss playing football and I hope to return soon to experience that same emotion again.”

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Strootman as Louis van Gaal is a big fan of the midfielder.

Before his latest injury it was speculated that a deal was all but agreed between the Red Devils and the Dutch international for a summer move.

However, it remains to be seen whether Van Gaal chooses to gamble on a player who has played very little football since March last year owing to his injury troubles.
