Roma have made Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson a priority target for the summer transfer window, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.

Johnson's contract with Liverpool comes to an end in the summer and there is no sign of the England international putting pen to paper on an extension at Anfield.

Roma have long been linked with wanting to take Johnson to the Italian capital on a free transfer – and now they are ready to step up their efforts after the defender was made a priority target.

It remains to be seen whether Johnson will be attracted to switching to the Stadio Olimpico, but his impending free transfer status makes him an attractive proposition for a number of clubs.

The 30-year-old has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool so far this season, chipping in with a single goal.
