Barcelona have held initial talks with Manchester City playmaker David Silva’s agent to prepare the groundwork for a possible future move for the Spaniard.

Though the Catalan giants have been prohibited by FIFA from signing players until 2016, the club are actively participating in the market to identify potential future targets.

Silva is one of the players who are on Barcelona’s shortlist and the club are taking steps to lay down the groundwork necessary to make a move for him in the future.

The Spaniard joined Manchester City in the summer of 2010 from Valencia and has been one of the main architects of the two Premier League titles that the Citizens won in their last three seasons.

Though Manchester City have struggled to replicate their previous season’s form in the current campaign, the 29-year-old’s reputation as one of the top playmakers of his generation has not diminished.

Barcelona are keen to explore the possibility of signing Silva soon after their transfer embargo is lifted and according to Catalunya-based daily Sport, the club held initial talks over a future transfer with the player’s representatives recently.

It has been claimed that both parties are satisfied with the way the talks went and they have even discussed a speculative transfer fee of around €30m for Silva.

By the time Barcelona will be allowed to do business in the transfer window next year, Silva will still have more than three years left on his deal with Manchester City and therefore the Citizens are expected to hold all the aces in the negotiations if the Catalan giants eventually make their move.

Despite Manchester City’s struggles, Silva has still managed to score eleven goals and provided nine assists in all competitions this season.
