PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands insists that Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich are not in the race for in-demand winger Memphis Depay.

A fierce scramble for Depay's signature has begun, with PSV having allowed Liverpool, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain permission to hold talks with the player and his representatives.

It had been suggested that Bayern Munich also want Depay, seeing him as a long term successor to countryman Arjen Robben.

But according to Brands, such suggestions are wide of the mark and Guardiola's men are not at present in the race.

"Bayern Munich, despite what I've read, are not in the race", the PSV official told FOX Sports.

Brands also feels that Depay should feel proud at the progress he has made at the Philips Stadion, progress which has made him one of the most sought-after young players in European football.

"It makes sense that there is so much interest in him.

"Memphis is a young player with huge potential.

"He should be very proud."

Depay has long been tipped for the top and represented the Netherlands at Under-15, 16, 17, 19 and 21 level before earning a spot in the senior side.

The 21-year-old is a product of PSV's esteemed youth system.
