Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino insists that he is not surprised about Manchester City's failure to retain the league title this year because the Premier League is the most difficult league to win.

As Pochettino's side prepare to tackle the defending league champions in an important league encounter on Sunday, the Argentine spoke about the reasons behind the Sky Blues' failure to retain the league title this year.

According to Pochettino, with teams such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham themselves fighting for the lucrative title, the scenario becomes difficult for a particular team to defend their title.

And therefore the 43-year-old is not surprised to see the Manchester-based club losing the title to the probable winners Chelsea this season.

"[The] Premier League is the most difficult league to win in the world", Pochettino said at a press conference.

The former Southampton manager also took time to speak about his optimism regarding Tottenham's chances of winning the league title in the future.

"Maybe in the future we'll have the same resources as Manchester City.

"To be realistic and fight for the title, we need to improve our squad and our game. We need to get a good balance in the team."

The Lilywhites currently placed sixth in the league table are desperate for a European spot next season.
