Neil Redfearn thinks that strong support from the Leeds United fans should influence club owner Massimo Cellino when he reaches his decision over who to have in charge of the Whites into next season.

The head coach has just led Leeds to a finish of 15th spot in the Championship table, meeting the target Cellino set for him upon taking charge in November, which was to keep the club in the division.

Cellino's Football League ban is due to expire and Redfearn is expecting to hold talks with the Italian businessman next week as a decision is taken on his future.

Asked at a press conference whether anyone at the club has spoken to him about his future, Redfearn replied: "No, I've had no contact as such.

"Obviously we're free to discuss things free of games, so I would expect next week we'll sit down and chat", he added.

And Redfearn feels a decision needs to be taken quickly as if he is to remain in charge he wants to be central to the club's recruitment process, which he believes was not an all round success last summer.

"The important part now becomes the recruitment part and if I'm going to be here I'd like to be part of that.

"I think that's important. If you recruit well and get the right players in you can supplement what you've done.

"And I think this close season we maybe need to recruit better."

The former midfielder once again received strong fan backing at Elland Road today and he was asked if he feels fierce support from the club's fans might influence Cellino. And Redfearn thinks it could.

"You'd think so, but we'll have to see."
