Brendan Rodgers is determined for Liverpool to secure European football for next season, even if that means playing in the Europa League.

Liverpool beat QPR 2-1 at Anfield earlier today with goals from Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard, the Reds captain making up for missing a penalty earlier in the game to power a header into the back of the net with just three minutes left.

The Reds are now fifth in the Premier League and four points behind fourth placed Manchester United, but the Red Devils have a game in hand and are firm favourites to secure Champions League football at Liverpool's expense.

If Liverpool finish fifth they will be playing Europa League football next season and Rodgers believes that playing in Europe, even outside the Champions League, is essential.

"Absolutely [being in Europe is what matters]", he told LFC TV, adding: "It's where the club belong. We will continue to fight to finish as high as we can.

"The club wasn't in the Champions League for five years, then we got into the Europa League and then the Champions League.

"You've just got to keep going to the very end", the former Swansea manager added.

Liverpool have just three games remaining this season, with Chelsea (away), Crystal Palace (home) and Stoke City (away) on the agenda for Rodgers' men.
