Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is proud of his players despite them going down to a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City this afternoon.

A Sergio Aguero goal in the first half was the difference in a game which saw Spurs register more shots at goal, 21 to 15, and more shots on target, five to four, than Manchester City.

Pochettino's men also had more possession than the visitors, enjoying 54 per cent of the ball at White Hart Lane, as they consistently looked dangerous and tested last season's Premier League champions.

To lose was disappointing for the Argentine manager, but he was still left feeling proud of his side.

He told Sky Sports: "I feel proud of our players. The performance was very good and we deserved much more. But the effort was brilliant.

"We had three or four chances in the first five minutes, but when you play Manchester City, you need to score when you get those chances.

"Joe Hart was brilliant today. He was the man of the match, and the difference between the teams."

Spurs continue to sit in fifth spot in the Premier League on 58 points from 35 matches. They are seven off fourth placed Manchester United.

Pochettino's men have three matches left this season, travelling to Stoke City next weekend before welcoming Hull City to White Hart Lane. They finish away at Everton.
