Christian Eriksen believes that Tottenham Hotspur are close to picking up silverware and is sure they will mount a stiff challenge for a trophy next season.

Spurs reached the final of the League Cup this season, but came up against a Chelsea side who proved too strong to overcome.

In the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup they also came up short, but Eriksen has seen enough for him to believe that Spurs have it within themselves to collect silverware.

The midfielder told DR: "I think that all players want to win something.

"We were close to winning something at Wembley with the League Cup", Eriksen continued.

"As a club, we also know we need to win something, the players feel it. And I feel that we were close.

"So I definitely think we can win something with Tottenham. Maybe not this season, but in the new season we'll see how it goes."

Eriksen has received plaudits for his performances with Spurs this term and is now firmly established as a key man under boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The 23-year-old, who joined the White Hart Lane outfit from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2013, has scored 12 goals and providing five assists in all competitions in the current campaign for Pochettino's men.
