Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that he is surprised by the number of goals Alexis Sanchez has scored for the Gunners this season after the Chilean moved on to 24 goals for the campaign tonight.

Sanchez scored two goals for the Gunners against Hull City at the KC Stadium, with Aaron Ramsey chipping in with the side's other goal as they ran out comfortable 3-1 winners.

Wenger was asked after the match by Sky Sports if he felt that Sanchez would have such a big impact in his first season at the club – and the Frenchman admits he did not.

"Yes [I did not expect it] because I expected him to be more of a provider than a goalscorer and especially because I'm playing him on the flank where you have less chances.

"But the timing and the quality of his runs are very good and he gets into good positions", Wenger added.

Arsenal were 3-0 up by half-time against Hull, playing superb football which the Tigers simply could not cope with. And Wenger was questioned over whether he wishes his side had been in such good form at the start of the term.

But the Arsenal manager says there were reasons why that was not the case.

"All of these players were not available at the start of the season and some had just returned from the World Cup."

Arsenal's win against Hull means that the Gunners have now secured Champions League football for next season. They sit third in the Premier League, behind Manchester City, but have a game in hand on the Citizens.
