Celtic assistant boss John Collins believes that John Guidetti has struggled for consistency this season due to his habit of scoring in bursts.

Guidetti is on a season-long loan at Celtic from English giants Manchester City, but has struggled to consistently hold down a spot in the side at the Scottish champions since the turn of the year.

The Swede saw his physical levels drop due to first team football and Collins believes such a thing was only to be expected due to Guidetti not having played regularly due to injuries before he arrived in Scotland.

"The hardest thing for any footballer is consistency", he told the BBC.

"Strikers have little bursts when they score goals and their confidence is high and then for one reason or another they lose a bit of sharpness, get rested and somebody comes in and takes their place, scores a few goals and they're out the team", Collins continued.

"That's what happened to John.

"He was unbelievable to start with, scoring goals, making goals, and then he tailed off.

"He hadn't played a lot of football before he came so we knew he was going to get tired, and he did. Leigh came in and, because we only play one striker, he dropped out. It was hard for him to get back in."

Guidetti is out of contract with Manchester City at the end of the season and there is already a scramble under way for his signature.

The Sweden international has been linked with staying at Celtic and moves to Inter, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Feyenoord.
