Arsenal Under-21 boss Steve Gatting has heaped praise on forward Alex Iwobi after the youngster’s goal proved to be the decider against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday.

Iwobi’s 48th minute strike sealed a narrow 1-0 win for the Gunners and arrested their four-match losing streak at Meadow Park yesterday. The win moves north London outfit to fourth spot in the Under-21 Premier League Division 2.

It was Iwobi’s eighth strike in the league and Gatting is pleased with the goalscoring instinct of his 19-year-old forward, saying that the youngster is a huge threat.

“Alex played No 9 against Brighton and he is a huge threat”, the manager told Arsenal Player.

“He gets in good goalscoring positions but I guess it was one of those goals where it was more difficult to miss."

Gatting was appreciative of the build-up that led to the goal which came as a result of a low cross from 18-year-old Gedion Zelalem.

“It was a good build-up play by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Dan Crowley and Zelalem because we were able to get in behind them and put it back across goal for Iwobi to score.”

Arsenal will face Bolton Wanderers in their next league clash away and host Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last game of the season.

The Gunners are already out of the promotion race and they will look to finish the season on a strong note with wins from their remaining fixtures.
