Manchester United have identified Tottenham Hotspur custodian Hugo Lloris as a potential replacement for David de Gea, who is wanted by Real Madrid this summer.

The Spaniard’s contract runs out at the end of the next season and though Manchester United have placed a lucrative deal on his table, he is yet to sign on the dotted line.

Real Madrid have been actively trying to snare De Gea away from England this summer and though the Red Devils are still hopeful of keeping him at Old Trafford, they are putting contingency plans in place in case he leaves for Spain.

Louis van Gaal wants a top class replacement for De Gea if he leaves at the end of the season and according to L’Equipe, he has indentified French number one Lloris as the man who has the ability to fill the big shoes of the Spaniard at Old Trafford.

While Lloris is content with life at Tottenham, he is keen to play in the Champions League next season and Spurs are set to miss out on the European extravaganza again this term.

With Manchester United on course to qualify for the competition, the club are in a good position to attract him to Old Trafford this summer and it has been claimed they have already made contact with Lloris’ entourage.

With more than four years left on his contract, Tottenham are not going to be easy negotiators and are expected to ask for top dollar for the Frenchman if they eventually allow him to leave the club at the end of the season.
