Derby County boss Steve McClaren has turned down a chance to become Newcastle United manager for the final three games of the season.

Newcastle announced yesterday that they are backing John Carver and he will remain in charge of the club for the final three league fixtures of the campaign.

However, according to the BBC, the club approached the former England manager after the Magpies suffered their eighth consecutive league defeat at Leicester City last weekend and offered him Carver’s job at St. James’ Park.

But the Derby boss turned down the chance and also stated that he has no intention of joining Newcastle United this summer.

Meanwhile, Carver also didn’t offer to resign nor was he asked to by club owner Mike Ashley. It has been claimed that senior players in the Newcastle squad held a meeting in the past 24 hours to discuss the team’s latest struggles.
