Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has handed Arsenal and Manchester United a boost in the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan in the summer by insisting his side are not in the mix for the Borussia Dortmund man.

Gundogan has told Dortmund that he will not extend his contract and wants to quit the club this summer; his current deal expires in 2016.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been strongly linked with moving to snap up Gundogan, but Wolfsburg were recently mooted as suitors and as preparing a €30m bid for the Germany international.

But Allofs has dismissed talk that Wolfsburg are ready to splash the cash on Gundogan.

"Linking him to us is nothing but hot air", Allofs told German magazine Kicker.
