Arsenal are prepared to make Joel Campbell part of a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder’s future came under the scanner last summer when he was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Arsenal but he stayed put in Portugal.

The 23-year-old midfielder has again caught the eye this season and was one of Sporting Lisbon’s top performers in the Champions League.

Though Sporting Lisbon are believed to be ready to accept a bid lower than his €45m release clause, it has been claimed that they have already knocked back a €30m offer from the Gunners.

Arsenal have been keeping a close watch on William since last summer and Arsene Wenger is keen to get his hands on the defensive midfielder at the end of the season.

Though Sporting Lisbon are turning out to be tough negotiators, the Gunners have an ace up their sleeve.

The Portuguese giants have an interest in Arsenal forward Campbell and the north London club are willing to make the Costa Rican part of a deal to tempt them to sell William this summer.

Currently on loan at Villarreal, the 22-year-old could prove to be the game changer for Arsenal in their chase for William at the end of the season.
