Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton is delighted with the way his season has turned out, but admits that he was seriously considering taking a decision on his future in January after a difficult start to the campaign.

Bitton joined Celtic in the summer of 2013 and in his first season under Ronny Deila, he has gone on to make 41 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops, scoring twice and assisting a further four goals in the process.

The Bhoys have enjoyed a spectacular season, winning the Premiership for a fourth successive season as well as collecting the League Cup in March to finish the season with a domestic double and Bitton has dubbed the campaign crazy.

“It feels crazy”, he told Celtic TV.

“Because it is always good to win trophies and it doesn’t matter how many [you have] won it’s always good to win this kind of thing.”

Celtic’s hopes of winning the domestic treble didn’t materialise as they lost to Inverness at the semi-final stage of the Scottish Cup and had to contend with a double. And the Israel international has acknowledged that it has been a good season despite the domestic cup defeat.

“We had a dream to win the treble but it wasn’t so easy; we lost in the semi-final but we won the double so it’s a very good thing.”

Bitton struggled to break into the Celtic first team at the start of the season, but he has gradually eased his way into the side. And he attributes his change in fortunes to a constructive conversation with Deila, which meant he did not have to take a decision in January.

“This season was like you can separate it into parts, like first three-four months it wasn’t the best for me, I was thinking what I will do in January but after a conversation with the gaffer everything changed for me and I started to play.

“I showed them that I wanted to, play I deserve to play.

“Of course it was good season for me.”
