Celtic manager Ronny Deila knows that he needs a striker who can score goals in the Champions League, especially the group stage if the Bhoys can progress, but believes there are only certain conditions which can allow his side to grab such a hitman.

Deila's predecessor at Celtic, Neil Lennon, frequently bemoaned the difficulty of signing a striker with proven goalscoring pedigree at Champions League level.

The current Celtic manager understands the problem, but also the constraints within which he has to work, which means there are only certain circumstances in which such a player can be signed. And if those circumstances are not met, then Celtic will have to forge their own Champions League hitman, Deila says.

"If we are going to get a quality striker into Celtic who has done that before [score goals in the Champions League], then it's not possible", he told a press conference.

"We have to understand. The only way we can get them here is if they've been injured for a long time and we're trying to get them back on track or he has been sitting on the bench for a very long time as well", Deila continued.

"We have to find the next striker who can develop into a Champions League striker. That's how we can do it.

"Or we have to bring back players who are Scottish or want to come back to Glasgow and play for Celtic because they love to play here.

"So we're looking at every aspect of that to see what we can do.

"We have to create a team that score enough goals."

Deila's Celtic have already won the Scottish Premiership title this season and now the Norwegian has already turned his attention towards his side's bid to reach the Champions League group stage next term.
