Louis van Gaal has spoken to Liverpool target Memphis Depay to tilt the transfer saga heavily towards Manchester United.

The PSV winger is certain to leave the club this summer and though the Dutchman is yet to make a decision on his future, three major contenders in the form of Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have emerged for his signature.

PSV have said that PSG and Liverpool are ahead of Manchester United in the race for Depay and it has also been claimed that Brendan Rodgers’ men have a clear edge over the Red Devils.

However, Manchester United are ready to take concrete steps to get the deal done and according to AD/Sportwereld, Van Gaal spoke to Depay earlier this week to tilt the scales towards his team.

While, the winger has spoken to PSG and Liverpool, it has been claimed that he kept them waiting because he was holding out for Manchester United to make a move for him.

Depay enjoyed playing under Van Gaal for the Dutch national team and is known to be more interested in joining Manchester United as he wants the opportunity to work under the former Ajax boss again.

While Liverpool were believed to be ahead in the race for the winger, the Manchester United manager seems to have shifted the balance of the transfer saga towards Old Trafford after speaking with Depay.
