Ligue 1 side Monaco are keen on Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic, according to French daily Le Parisien.

Mandzukic is set to be the subject of a number of offers when the summer transfer window swings back open and Monaco are determined not to be left out of the race.

The principality club, who reached the quarter-finals of this season's Champions League, see the former Bayern Munich man as the perfect successor to Dimitar Berbatov in attack.

However, before making a concrete move for Mandzukic, Monaco want to secure their spot in next season's Champions League.

At present Leonardo Jardim's men are third in Ligue 1, a spot which would offer them a place in the Champions League, but their lead over fourth placed Marseille and fifth placed Saint-Etienne is just two points.

Meanwhile, Mandzukic has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Atletico Madrid this season, with 12 of those strikes coming in La Liga.
