Former Inter coach Walter Mazzarri has received proposals from Sunderland and Newcastle United, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato.

The Italian tactician has just been to England, touring a number of clubs and observing their training methods. Mazzarri spent time in London, Manchester and Liverpool, with one of the sides he took in being Roberto Martinez's Everton.

The coach is taking his time over returning to the game, but has received two proposals which have pricked his ears.

The first has come from Newcastle, who are looking for a new manager to lead the side into next season and have assured the former Napoli boss that he would have a sizable sum to spend in the transfer market during the summer window.

Mazzarri's second proposal has been fielded from Sunderland, Newcastle's rivals, who are, like their rivals, battling against relegation from the Premier League this season.

Both sides sit out of the relegation zone, but just two points clear, with two games to play for Newcastle, while Sunderland have three matches remaining.

Mazzarri also had a conversation with Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain, although no proposal was made, with the Citizens having other irons in the fire first.

The Italian is waiting too to see what opportunities present themselves in his homeland.
