Former Celtic winger and Scotland international Ross Wallace has been released by Burnley.

The Clarets have been relegated from the Premier League this season and are preparing for life in the second tier of English football next season.

Wallace, whose contract was set to expire at the end of the season, has been confirmed as being released by the club even before they play their last Premier League game next weekend.

The 29-year-old joined Burnley from Preston North End in 2010 and played a key role in them getting promoted to the Premier League last season.

However, the Celtic academy graduate played very little part for Sean Dyche’s side in the top flight this season and only made 15 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring a solitary goal.

He made only one league start in the whole campaign for Burnley and will be looking for a new club this summer.

Schooled at Celtic’s youth system, Wallace made 37 first team appearances for the Scottish giants before moving to England with Sunderland in 2006.

Burnley will take an away trip to Aston Villa this Sunday for their last Premier League game of this season.
