Liverpool target Mattia Perin is close to agreeing a new contract with Genoa which will extend his stay with the club until 2019.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper is one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in Italy and has already been tipped to succeed the legendary Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national team.

His performances for the Rossoblu this season in the Italian top flight have attracted the prying eyes of some of the top clubs in Europe, including from England.

Brendan Rodgers is known to be an admirer of the young custodian and was plotting to take him to Liverpool this summer, but both Genoa and Perin are keen to extend their association.

The 22-year-old has been insisting that he is happy at Stadio Luigi Ferraris and wants to continue his development with Genoa beyond the summer.

However, the Serie A outfit are aware of the interest in their goalkeeper and are claimed to have drawn up a new contract for the player to ward off his suitors for the time being.

According to Sky Italia, Perin is close to agreeing a new four-year deal with Genoa and is expected to receive a hefty raise in his pay package as a reward for his consistency during the season.

Genoa are hoping that the new contract will also allow them to take an upper hand in negotiations if any of the 22-year-old’s suitors make a move for him in the summer.
