Lazio are eyeing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Algerian international midfielder Nabil Bentaleb this summer, according to Algerian-focused outlet Le Buteur.

A youth academy graduate of the north London club, the 20-year-old defensive midfielder has risen through the ranks at Tottenham to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team squad.

Despite missing a chunk of the season due to an ankle injury, Bentaleb has managed to make his mark in a Tottenham shirt this term and has clocked up 34 appearances in all competitions.

His performances as a defensive shield in the middle of the park have earned widespread praise but they have also caught the imagination of a few clubs across Europe.

Lazio have been monitoring his progress at White Hart Lane and the club are keen to take Bentaleb to Italy this summer.

However, the Biancocelesti are set to encounter a resistant Tottenham, who are not willing to lose a young talent such as Bentaleb this summer and with more than three years left on his contract with the club, Spurs are unlikely to soften their stance.

The 20-year-old also made his debut for Algeria in May last year and has already earned 16 international caps for his country.
