Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is trying to convince Manchester United striker Robin van Persie join the Giallorossi.

Van Persie has been struggling with form and injuries this season and has failed to reach his past heights with Manchester United for the last couple of campaigns.

Manchester United are unlikely to offer an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of next season, and there are rumours that the club are willing to listen to offers for the Dutchman this summer.

While Fenerbahce are interested in acquiring his services, Van Persie wants to continue his career at one of the major European clubs and there is speculation that there is strong interest in the striker in Italy.

Both Juventus and Roma are believed to chasing Van Persie’s signature, but the Giallorossi are moving the pieces around in the saga to tempt the Dutchman to move to Roma this summer.

According to Sportitalia, Roma midfielder Strootman has spoken to his Dutch international captain to convince him to join him at the Stadio Olimpico before the start of the new season.

Roma are hoping to utilise the midfielder’s personal equation with Van Persie to beat off interest from Juventus, who are also believed to be in the running for the Manchester United striker’s signature.

The forward’s agent is set to arrive in Italy soon to talk to his client’s potential suitors about a transfer.
