Former Leeds United forward Max Gradel has sent out a warning shot to Saint-Etienne, insisting that he will be heading elsewhere if ambition is not shown by the club.

Gradel has been in superb form for Les Verts this season, scoring 15 goals in Ligue 1 to top score for the club in the French top flight and keep them in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

There is much talk of the Ivorian moving on in the summer though, he has admitted a liking for England, and Gradel wants to see ambition being shown by Saint-Etienne.

He told L'Equipe: "Since I have been here, we have not really been ambitious.

"Not when it comes to trying to win something or moving higher up, because we continue to sell our better players", Gradel continued.

"You don't need to be intelligent to understand that.

"If the club decide to continue on that path, then it will be up to me to make a decision."

Saint-Etienne currently sit in fifth spot in Ligue 1 with 66 points from 37 games.

They are two points off third spot, with the top three qualifying for the Champions League, but have only one further game to play, at home against Guingamp.

Gradel joined Saint-Etienne from Leeds in 2011.
