Bayern Munich are having second thoughts about signing Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan because of his wage demands.

The midfielder rejected a new contract offer from Dortmund recently and is widely expected to leave the club this summer as his current deal runs out at the end of next season.

Dortmund are looking to earn a transfer fee of around €20m from Gundogan’s sale and though that is not a problem, his wage demands are making a few of his suitors nervous.

It has been claimed that the midfielder rejected a €6.5m per season contract from Dortmund and that fact has not escaped the attention of Bayern Munich, who are keen to sign him this summer.

According to Bild, the German champions are a little wary of Gundogan’s financial demands and especially with his history of injury problems, the club are now having second thoughts about chasing the midfielder’s signature.

While Bayern Munich remain sceptical about the 24-year-old, he remains a popular figure in England and both Manchester United and Arsenal are believed to be ready to meet his wage demands to secure his signature this summer.

Though Gundogan is expected to leave Dortmund this summer, his next destination remains unclear and the speculation surrounding his future is expected to reach fever pitch once the transfer window opens next month.
