Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has expressed his interest in taking up the reins of Sunderland in the future.

The Black Cats secured their Premier League status for next season after they held Arsenal to a scoreless draw last night at the Emirates Stadium.

Sunderland have struggled in recent seasons and have flirted with relegation several times before ultimately managing to avoid the drop.

They were staring at relegation again this season under the management of Gus Poyet, before he was sacked and Dick Advocaat was appointed until the end of the current season and was tasked with the job of keeping the Black Cats in the English top flight.

The Dutchman has done his immediate job, but his future is still uncertain as to whether he will be at the Stadium of Light next season.

Yorke, who had a three-year stint with Sunderland from 2006 until his departure in 2009, has expressed his interest in taking up the reins of his former club sometime in the future.

"I feel that one day given the chance the opportunity may come along at Sunderland it would be a team of great interest to me because I feel I've got unfinished business there”, he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"I see myself as an aspiring, new, young manager coming through the ranks once I've finished my qualifications this year I will certainly be looking at it with one eye.”
