Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has taken a swipe at club legend Thierry Henry, someone he feels only criticised him to liven up his dull punditry.

Henry, in his role with Sky Sports, said after Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Chelsea last month that Giroud is not the type of striker that can win the Gunners the Premier League.

The former striker also told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he needs to sign four players in order to challenge for the Premier League title next term.

Word of Henry's comments reached Giroud and he is less than happy with his countryman's criticism.

Speaking to French sports daily L'Equipe, Giroud said: "I heard he was being a bit too dull.

"Then he came out with a real bomb…..It had its desired effect."

Arsenal are set to finish third in the Premier League this season and Giroud has bagged 14 goals for the Gunners in the current campaign.

The France international will hope to add to his tally in his club's two remaining games, with a Premier League clash against West Brom followed by the FA Cup final against Aston Villa at the end of the month.
