Ajax have put what has been described as an "excellent" offer in front of Willem II left-back Mitchell Dijks.

The 22-year-old has a number of clubs on his tail, a group that also includes Scottish champions Celtic and Dutch outfit Feyenoord.

Ajax sold Dijks to Willem II, but now want the defender back, and due to a 50 per cent sell-on clause included in the deal, only have to pay half his €1.3m asking price.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Dijks met with Ajax coach Frank de Boer yesterday, a meeting at which the coach admitted Ajax made a mistake in letting him leave.

Ajax also presented Dijks with a lucrative contract offer and are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Dijks is due to meet with Feyenoord later today, while his other suitors may also still want to have their say in the race.

The 22-year-old has won many plaudits for his performances with Willem II this term in the Eredivisie. He however has just one year left on his contract with the Dutch club.
