Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has offered his sympathy to striker Emmanuel Adebayor but has refused to provide him any assurances about his future at the club.

The 31-year-old striker, who has managed 17 appearances for the Lilywhites this season, has been granted compassionate leave to return to his home in Togo to sort out ongoing family issues.

It in fact is not the first time that the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker has been allowed time away, with Adebayor having missed a number of games earlier in the season as well due to the same issue.

While sympathising with the striker's current predicament and offering the club's full support, Pochettino insisted that it is a completely different scenario as far as the striker's future at the club is concerned.

Any decision on the striker, the former Southampton manager insists, has to be taken while keeping the club's interest in mind.

"This is a different problem", Pochettino was quoted as saying by ITV while speaking on the issue of the striker's future.

"One problem is his private live, the other is the sports side and always we need to take a decision for the future of the club, but here is no decision yet.

"We need to take a decision [on what we will start to do with the squad] next week and at this moment we don't take any decision."
