Former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres believes that the Reds' fans are going to remember Steven Gerrard as "one of the biggest, if not the biggest legends in the club".
The 34-year-old, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season after a 17-year senior stint, is being given a rousing farewell by the fans as well as his former and current team-mates.
Torres, who was a team-mate of the former England international between 2007 and 2011 at Anfield, feels that Gerrard has been an asset for the club and he would have loved to have Gerrard play for Liverpool forever.
Gerrard has been a pillar for the Liverpool-based club both in their good and bad times, always ready to take up the next challenge and that, the current Atletico Madrid player feels, is what the Liverpool supporters have been asking for.
"I'm sure he's going to be remembered forever as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, legends in the club", Torres said in an interview with Liverpool's official website.

"And that's huge, it's Liverpool – one of the biggest clubs in the world. I'm sure he's very proud of that and I'm very proud of him.
"I would like for Stevie to play for Liverpool forever and forever but sometimes in life you cannot choose what is better for everybody.
"You can see the reality, everybody understands his position, and even if they don't understand they respect his decision because they all love Stevie.
"Everything he did; you can see the top teams and the clubs, it's difficult to find a player who stays in the good and the bad times.
"He had great times, bad times, but he was always ready for the next challenge and this is what Liverpool supporters ask of the players."
Torres also feels that the departing skipper has been one who has managed to give the club his passion, his love and his entire life with great results.
"Give your passion, your love, your entire life for the club and he did and with great results."
