Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that winning the Premier League Manager of the Season award makes him happy, but he takes more pleasure in winning the league title than any individual accolade.

Mourinho’s Chelsea wrested the Premier League from Manchester City with four games to spare earlier this month and they will be presented with the trophy this weekend following their clash against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese, who didn’t win the Manager of the Month award at any time this season, is pleased to be handed the award for his performance over the season. However, he added that nothing can match the feeling of winning the Premier League.

“I was not waiting for it, I was never Manager of the Month, but I’m happy with it”, the Blues’ boss was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“It’s a club trophy, not an individual one. It’s for me, my assistants, my players, everybody who works with me. It’s something you don’t just get by yourself.

“It’s the icing on the cake but I work for the cake.

“The Premier League is the real cake but obviously to be the Manager of the Season is nice.”

Chelsea also won the League Cup following their defeat of Tottenham Hotspur in the final in March and are set to finish the season with a domestic double.
