Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Raheem Sterling will see out the final two years of his contract at the club, regardless of talks that take place between the Reds and the player.

Sterling has refused to sign a new deal at Anfield and wants to quit the club, having become disillusioned with the club's ability to meet his ambitions; Liverpool have missed out on Champions League football for next season.

His agent has insisted that a new deal will not be signed by the winger, while a meeting scheduled between the player and Liverpool today was cancelled as the contract spat becomes ever more public.

Rodgers is determined not to bring the matter into the public though, but suggests that he expects Sterling to see out his deal regardless.

"It's very difficult to comment on what other people speak about, but we've always been very clear at Liverpool, if we have discussions to take place it will all be dealt with internally", Rodgers told a press conference.

"We look to do it in-house and as private as it can be. So for me the concentration for myself is to continue to improve Raheem as a football player.

"With Raheem it's very simple, with talks or no talks, he has two years left on his deal and I expect him to see those two years through", the Liverpool manager added.

Sterling was booed by a section of fans at Liverpool's end of season awards dinner earlier this week and it remains to be seen whether Rodgers will put him in the firing line for the club's final Premier League match away at Stoke City this weekend.
