Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is keen for his team to finish on a winning note in front of their home fans when they play Southampton in their last game of the season at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

The Citizens have been unable to retain their Premier League title and are set to finish the season in second after enduring a difficult run of form since the turn of the year.

They won a League Cup and Premier League double last term, but are set to finish the season without silverware after crashing out from both the domestic cups in the early stages and exiting the Champions League at the round of 16 stage.

And Kompany is eager for his team to bid farewell to their season on a winning note this Sunday.

“The fans have been incredible, as they always are”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“It’s the players’ chance to say thank you so I hope everyone stays behind and we will aim to end with a good performance and three points.”

He further added that the Citizens will aim to reclaim the title next season.

“Then our focus is all about next season and doing all we can to win our third title in five years.”
