Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has declared Wayne Rooney fit for their away trip to Hull City on Sunday but is unsure about David de Gea’s involvement.

Rooney suffered a dead leg in their win over Crystal Palace earlier this month which forced him off the field at half-time.

Van Gaal said last week that he was not expecting Rooney to take any further part in their last two games but has revealed that the Manchester United captain will play against Hull at the KC Stadium on Sunday.

David de Gea suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal last weekend and was taken off the field for treatment, paving the way for Victor Valdes to make his debut for the club at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman revealed that De Gea trained separately with the goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, but he is still not sure whether the Spaniard will be available for selection on Sunday.

"Wayne is available, he is captain so he shall play”, Van Gaal said in a press conference.

“I don't know [if David will play]. He trained today but only with the goalkeeping coach.

“He still has a little problem but I'll wait a day longer as I want him to play against Hull City."
