Valencia are determined to battle hard to keep Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi out of the clutches of Manchester United, according to Valencia-based daily Superdeporte.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is thought to have switched his attention to the 27-year-old after Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels indicated that he favours staying put at his current club.

It has been claimed in Argentina that Otamendi has already agreed the outline of personal terms with Manchester United, but the view from Spain is that the centre-back is happy where he is.

Indeed, it is claimed that Otamendi will not push to leave Valencia and the Spanish giants are determined not to sell him.

Valencia have Otamendi locked down on a contract which contains a buy-out clause of €50m and Los Che are minded not to accept a cent less if Manchester United come calling.

Otamendi himself will not push to join the Red Devils, but if his buy-out clause is met then he is prepared to move to Old Trafford.

However, it remains to be seen if Manchester United will be willing to splash out €50m to secure the Argentina international.
