Chelsea have barged past several clubs in the race to sign young Paraguay striker Sergio Diaz by inviting his father to London for talks.

Roma have been chasing the 17-year-old, who currently turns out in his homeland for Cerro Porteno, and have been hopeful of doing a deal to take him to the Italian capital.

But their hopes have suffered a blow after Chelsea accelerated their interest in the Paraguay Under-17 international by setting up talks with his father, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato.

Chelsea are trying to quickly push through an agreement and are aware that more clubs than just Roma have shown interest in Diaz.

Indeed, both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with making a move for Diaz, while Borussia Dortmund have also kept close tabs on the player's situation.

Manchester United and Liverpool were credited with lodging an official enquiry for Diaz earlier this year, but Roma took the lead in recent months.

Now though it is Chelsea making the running for the Paraguayan wonderkid and the Blues appear increasingly confident of sealing the deal.
