IFK Gothenburg have rubbished talk that they want to sign Aston Villa striker Nicklas Helenius, saying he is not the type of player they are looking for.

Helenius is currently on loan at Danish side AaB from Aston Villa and is in talks with the English Premier League club to terminate his contract, which has a year to run.

The Denmark international has had a thoroughly forgettable spell with Aston Villa, struggling to make his mark and then being loaned back to his former club.

A move to IFK Gothenburg had been speculated, but the Swedish team say they have no interest in the striker.

Sporting director Mats Gren told Fotbollskanalen: "We have gone through it and he's not really the type that we want to replace [Lasse] Vibe.

"He does not have speed like Vibe and is between [Mikael] Boman and [Gustav] Engvall."

Helenius joined Aston Villa from AaB in the summer of 2013, penning a three-year contract and costing the Premier League club around £1.2m.

The 24-year-old made his Premier League debut for the club against Liverpool in August 2013, but struggled to command a spot in the side and quickly slipped out of the first team picture, leading to a loan to former club AaB for the season last summer.
