Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has provided his take on the Reds' 6-1 crushing away at Stoke City in their final game of the Premier League season today.

The Potters ran riot at the Britannia Stadium, carving Liverpool apart, being first to every ball, and were 5-0 up by half time as the Merseyside giants crumbled.

Steven Gerrard scored a consolation for Liverpool in what was his final game for the club, but Peter Crouch headed into the back of the net to score a sixth for Stoke to cap a miserable afternoon for Brendan Rodgers' men.

For Carragher, freak results happen in football, but what was not acceptable was Liverpool being 5-0 down after just 45 minutes of football.

Carragher took to his Facebook page to write: "The Liverpool result today at Stoke is unacceptable for all concerned but it wasn't the 6-1 score line at the end but more the 5-0 at ht.

"I haven't seen any of the action but when hearing the score come through in the studio today after the first 45 mins there was a look of disbelief from all around", the former defender continued.

"You have freak results in football I remember Man United at home to Man City a few seasons ago, to be fair to them though they had a man sent off & conceded 2/3 goals late on while chasing the game.

"Also it was Stoke who were the opposition not one of the Champions League teams, there was no sending off and it wasn't a team of young kids you might use at the end of a season, just an awful first half for the team that will take some getting over."

Regardless of the result however, Carragher does feel that Liverpool's defence has improved somewhat in recent months, as evidenced by Simon Mignolet being in the running to win the Premier League's Golden Glove.

"Liverpool had defensive problems last season that eventually cost us the title and our record defensively this season is still not great but, the goalkeeper was in line today to win the golden glove award for most clean sheets today which shows some improvement.

"After today though it's evident for all to see there is problems at both ends of the field that will hopefully be rectified in some way this summer.

"The only consolation was Stevie Gerrard getting a goal in his last game but he will not have wanted to go out like that especially after last weeks result against Crystal Palace."
