West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed his departure from the club this summer is mutual, as he did not want to remain with the Hammers.

Allardyce's contract with West Ham is up in the summer and at the end of the club's final Premier League game of the season today, a 2-0 defeat away at Newcastle United, the club confirmed that he will be leaving.

The 60-year-old insists the decision is mutual as he did not want to extend his four-year stay in London, feeling the right time had come to move on.

"I didn't want to stay. I suppose you could say it was mutual if they didn't want me to stay either", he told the BBC.

"I thought it was the right time to leave – and probably the right time for me and the club", he added.

Allardyce insists he will not now rush back into management, but will take a break to recharge his batteries and reflect upon his stint with the Hammers. He believes that time out of the game will leave him better prepared when the time comes to step back into the dugout at a new club.

"It's time to have that break. I'm looking to have a break, recharging the batteries and when the batteries are recharged you are better prepared to carry on doing the job at this level.

"It's not just a job I'm after, it's the right job. You can never say never but I can't see myself being in charge of another football club at the start of next season", the manager added.
