Portuguese giants FC Porto are pushing to sign Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin after coach Julen Lopetegui gave the green light to the transfer.

The young shot-stopper has been mooted as the natural successor to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national team and has been strongly linked with Liverpool.

Perin has not pushed to leave Genoa and has been at pains to point out he is happy at the Serie A club.

But according to Portuguese daily A Bola, Porto are making progress towards signing the young goalkeeper.

The Primeira Liga giants have opened talks over signing Perin and believe that he is within reach.

Just 22 years old, Perin is already a regular between the sticks for Genoa, while he has also been capped by Italy at senior international level.

With a single game left to be played in Serie A, Genoa currently sit sixth in the Italian top flight and on course to qualify for the Europa League.
