Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has expressed his happiness over the Gunners’ performance in their last league game of the season, saying that the team gave the club faithful something to remember.

Arsene Wenger’s side ended their league campaign with a 4-1 mauling of West Bromwich Albion. The hosts started the game in style with a fourth minute goal by Theo Walcott putting them ahead early on. He went on to score a hat-trick and Wilshere added one with a stupendous strike to put the Gunners 4-0 ahead by half time.

Wilshere, who has been plagued by injuries this season that have reduced him to only 14 Premier League appearances, is delighted to have given the club faithful a great display – a performance he labelled the best they have played this season – on the final day of the league campaign.

“We’ve given the fans something to remember”, the 23-year-old was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“The first half had some of the best performances we’ve played this season. Every time we went forward and got into the final third we looked dangerous.

“We could have been six or seven up. We were happy with the four and we maybe dropped off a little bit in the second half, but we’re pleased with the first half and I’m happy with my goal.”

Talking about his own strike from 20 yards out, Wilshere said that he hit it sweetly and he was lucky that the ball went in.

“Gabriel [Paulista] set it to me and it was one of those where if I hit it another 100 times it wouldn’t go in.

“I hit it sweetly and it hit the top corner.”
