Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has revealed that his side approached yesterday's game against Hull City in the most professional way, trying to win, but were sad to see the Tigers relegated.

Yesterday's 0-0 draw at the KC Stadium wasn't enough to secure the Tigers' Premier League status as a win for Newcastle United meant that Steve Bruce's side were the third team to be relegated this season.

The former Chelsea player, who has previous experience of witnessing such a situation, feels that it was not a really good experience to have seen a local team relegated.

The 27-year-old also took time to insist that he sent in his support to the fans and will hope to see Hull City back in the Premier League soon.

"We finished the season with a draw at Hull that also meant the local team was relegated", Mata wrote on his blog.

"It’s not nice to experience something like that on-site, unfortunately this is not the first time I have seen it.

"As I said, we approached this game in the most professional way, trying to win. At the end, our draw, plus Newcastle’s victory, left Hull in the relegation zone.

"I send my support to their fans – we hope to see you back in the Premier League soon."

There was also praise for Newcastle United's goalscorer for the day, Jonas Gutierrez, after he capped a fairy tale return campaign.

"By the way, Jonas Gutierrez's goal for Newcastle tells us a lot about life and the way to overcome the real problems."
