Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he wants to keep Theo Walcott at the club and negotiations with the player’s agent are already under way.

Walcott capped off his league season with an imperious performance against West Bromwich Albion on the final day of the league campaign, when he scored a first half hat-trick.

The England international spent a year on the sidelines following a cruciate ligament injury in January last year after which he suffered a groin injury. As a result, he has 20 appearances in all competitions this season.

Walcott’s existing contract with Arsenal ends in the summer of 2016 and Wenger has revealed that he wants to keep the forward at the club and the negotiations with the player’s agent are under way regarding an extension.

“Without his hat-trick or with his hat-trick, we want him to stay”, the Frenchman was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“We are in negotiations and we have started to speak with his agent.

“We did that before he scored his hat-trick.

“Last time he got injured he was playing centre forward in a very convincing game against Tottenham Hotspur in January.

“He got injured and was out for a year. On that day he was injured playing up front.”

Walcott has made over 300 appearances for Arsenal since he joined the club in 2006 from Southampton. He will hope his performance yesterday will have forced him into the reckoning for the FA Cup final against Aston Villa.
