Morgan Schneiderlin has said that he will only leave Southampton this summer for a Champions League club in England, giving further encouragement to reported suitors Arsenal.

The Saints and the player were at loggerheads last summer after they blocked him from leaving the club but following a meeting with the Southampton hierarchy, the Frenchman decided put his head down and played a key role for Ronald Koeman’s men this season.

Schneiderlin has never hidden his desire to play in the Champions League and has repeatedly stated that he wants to test himself in Europe’s elite club competition.

Southampton have failed to qualify for the Champions League this season and their Europa League future depends on the result of the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Aston Villa.

The Frenchman has revealed that he enjoys playing in England and stressed that he wants to continue to ply his trade in the Premier League next season.

Tottenham have been keeping a close eye on Schneiderlin since last summer but he seems to have ruled out a move to White Hart Lane by saying that he will only leave the Saints this summer if there is an offer from a Champions League club.

“Yes, I think my decision is made", he told French radio station RMC.

"I learned a lot last season. The goal is to stay in England. It is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun.

"If I leave Southampton, it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League.

"There are ongoing discussions, but nothing is done. But, of course, the Champions League is my goal.

"If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.”

The latest development will provide impetus to Arsenal, who have been tracking his progress this season and are believed to be keen to take him to the Emirates this summer.
